    Alfred was born the 15th of February 1924 in Worcester, Massachusetts the only son of Alfred and Irene Bond. He had a half sister Elizabeth and was a 1942 graduate of the South High School in Worcester. He was a student at the Northeast Aircraft school in Boston when he enlisted into the Army Air Corps the 23rd of November 1942. He completed his flight training at Foster Field as an aviation cadet with Class 44E and was awarded his wings in May of 1944. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant shortly afterwards and married Dora Paquette in July of 1944. He was assigned to the 524th Fighter Squadron, 27th Fighter group as a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot and met his new unit in Italy.

    Alfred and the 524th moved to a variety of airfields in Southern France and Italy throughout the remainder of 1944 and Alfred flew a total of 35 combat missions during this time. He was awarded an Air Medal on the 21st of February 1945, he would also earn two oak leaf clusters to this award. Moving to Biblis, Germany the 5th of April 1945 the squadron continued to attack German targets in the theater and interdict German aircraft. Over the course of his time with the 524th, Alfred was awarded three separate Air Medals. On the 27th of April 1945, Alfred departed from Biblis airfield on a mission to strafe German positions as the pilot of a P-47 nicknamed “The Boomer” which crashed after receiving anti-aircraft fire southwest of Frankfurt, Germany. Alfred was killed during the crash and was buried at Reutti American Cemetery near Ulm, Germany Plot B, Row 15, Grave 174. He was repatriated to the United States and buried at Maplewood Cemetery in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
