Clayton Charles Lizotte

    Clayton was born the 23rd of May 1919 in Marlborough, Massachusetts the youngest of four children born to Hervey and Nellie Lizotte. He was a graduate of St Anthony’s parochial school and a 1937 graduate of the Marlborough High School where he was a star of the track team. He enlisted into the Massachusetts National Guard and served in Company K of the 181st Infantry Regiment. He was living with his parents at 473 Lincoln Street when he was mobilized for federal service the 16th of January 1941.

    After performing coastal defense duty throughout New England, Clayton was assigned to Company C of the 47th Armored Infantry Battalion, 5th Armored Division. Assigned to Combat Command R, the 47th Armored Infantry Battalion arrived in England in February of 1944. The Division landed at Utah beach in Normandy, France the 24th of July 1944. Clayton and his comrades pushed south ultimately taking the French city of Le Mans on the 8th of August 1944. On the 10th of August Clayton was killed in action. His remains were repatriated to the United States in 1948. He is buried at the Saint Mary’s cemetery in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Lizotte Drive in Marlborough is named in his honor.
