Joseph was born the 4th of July 1915 in Milford, Massachusetts the oldest of four children born to Luigi and Rosella Ferrecchio. He married Rosella Masciarelli in 1939 and together they would have a son and a daughter. He lived in Clinton, Massachusetts with his family and worked a variety of jobs locally including at the Continental Baking Company, the Masciarelli Jewelers and as a carpenter at Fort Devens.
He enlisted into the Army the 30th of March 1944 and completed his basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida. He was sent to Fort Meade, Maryland before shipping overseas to Europe. He was a replacement in Company C of the 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division and met up with his unit in France sometime in September of 1944. Joseph met up with the 8th Infantry Regiment in time to participate in battles with the Germans in the Hurgen Forest in November of 1944.
A prolific writer, many of his letters were printed in the Clinton Item newspaper and detailed his time at the front. On the 9th of February 1945 Joseph was killed in action on the border with Germany. His grave is located at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Hombourg, Belgium. A cenotaph in his honor is located at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
